Confirmation (Grades 9 & 10)

Through the Sacrament of Confirmation, candidates are strengthened by the Holy Spirit to proclaim the Gospel. Preparation includes a two-year process with retreats, prayer, and service activities. Confirmation completes initiation into the Catholic Church.

Infant Baptism

Parents are asked to call the Parish Office to arrange for this sacrament several months before the baby is born. A Baptism class is required every three years. Classes are scheduled in January, March, May, July, September, and November. Baptisms are typically held on the third Sunday of the month at noon. For detailed information visit: https://stjosephwaconia.org/baptism.

First Eucharist (Grade 2)

St. Joseph Catholic Community invites families with children in second grade and older to prepare for the reception of First Eucharist by attending weekly Mass and participating in Faith Formation classes. Preparation includes a parent meeting, workshops, and classroom sessions. Families are asked to attend a spring workshop and participate in activities before the reception of First Eucharist.

First Reconciliation (Grade 2)

First Reconciliation, the sacrament of forgiveness/healing, is typically celebrated in the second grade prior to the reception of First Eucharist. Students must be baptized in the Catholic Church. Preparation for the sacrament includes classroom sessions, two parent and student sessions, a parent-only meeting, and a retreat. Second graders are asked to attend classes, weekly Mass, and complete their reconciliation workbook before reception of the sacrament.

Becoming Catholic (OCIA/OCIC)

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults and Children is a process through which participants grow in faith and discern joining the Catholic Church. It is for unbaptized adults and children over seven, adults baptized in another tradition, or Catholics seeking to complete their initiation. Sessions run weekly from September to May and can be joined at any time.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is held during Mass on most Sundays during the school year for children aged 3 years to 4th grade. Children hear scripture readings and reflections in the Narthex and return to their families after the homily. Parents are welcome to accompany their children.

Elementary (Grades K-5)

The family formation program meets three times a month on the first through third Wednesdays from 6:00–7:00 PM. It includes student-only classes, parent & student classes, and Mass/small group activities.

Middle School: EDGE (Grades 6-8)

EDGE provides middle school students with engaging education through service experiences, praise, worship, and interactive activities. Students gather for group activities and break into smaller grade-specific groups. Each session includes prayer, scripture reading, discussion, and closing prayers.
