Opportunities to get involved in Outreach at St. Joseph!

501 – Baby Carrier Blanket & Prayer Shawl Committee
As a means of welcoming newly baptized at St. Joseph, volunteers crochet and/or knit white baby carrier blankets. St. Joseph Catholic Community also provides an opportunity for parishioners to create prayer shawls and pray together for those who are ill, experiencing a loss or are lonely in our parish community. Individuals who receive the shawls may include relatives and friends of parishioners. Time commitment: Done at home. Contact: Sandy Rosetter at 952-442-2384 or srosetter@stjosephwaconia.org

503 – Homebound Eucharistic Ministry
St. Joseph Catholic Community provides opportunities to minister to Catholics at various places in Waconia, such as Ridgeview Medical Center, nursing homes, apartments, and private homes. The volunteer must provide their own transportation. They must complete the Code of Conduct, Vulnerable Adult Training and background check as required by the Archdiocese. Eucharistic Ministers go to Ridgeview Medical Center on Sunday and two weekdays. They also give Holy Communion to parishioners and residents on Sundays at Auburn Homes, Auburn Meadows, New Perspective, Good Samaritan, Westview Acres, Nagel Assisted Living, Crossings, Evergreen Apartments, Maple Court Apartments, and private homes. Time commitment: Sundays, once every 4-6 weeks for 2 hours – or weekdays 1 hour per week.

504 – Funeral Hospitality
St. Joseph Catholic Community provides an opportunity for parishioners to be present to families of those who have lost a loved one. Volunteers usher or setup, serve, and clean-up after the meal. The availability to work on short notice is needed. Time commitment: 2 – 4 hours, Occurs: Day of the funeral.

505 – Meals on Wheels
This is a hot meal delivery program for homebound individuals living in Waconia and outlying areas. St. Joseph Catholic Community provides volunteer drivers, using their personal vehicles to deliver meals. Drivers must be over the age of 18 or accompanied by an adult. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday. Volunteers are given detailed driving instructions to the various locations. Contact: Bernie Joos at 952-442-2713 for training. Time commitment: 2-3 hours, on 1 day during the third week of the month

507 – Quilting Committee
Volunteers tie quilts. No experience necessary. The quilts are distributed to those in need in the surrounding area. Contact: Sandy Rosetter at 952-442-2384 or srosetter@stjosephwaconia.org. Time commitment: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Tuesdays in the winter until the project is done and annually two weeks before Lent

508 – Pro-Life Committee
The objective is to work in the community to teach respect for all human life from conception to natural death and to organize and advocate for its protection through education, prayer, action, and advocacy. Volunteers strive to promote the teachings of the Catholic Church, especially regarding family, holy marriages, chastity, healing and reconciliation for those suffering from abortion. Committee meets monthly to share information on current respect life issues, to plan upcoming events and to pray. Contact: Karen Bonick at 952-368-4207 or kbonick36@hotmail.com. Time commitment: Meets monthly for one hour

509 – Stock the Shelf Weekend
St. Joseph Catholic Community provides opportunities to volunteer and raise awareness of the needs of the community by donating food to our local food shelf. Volunteers are needed to organize food donations and deliver them to the food shelf. Time commitment: 2–3 hours over two days

510 – Visiting Parishioners
St. Joseph Catholic Community provides opportunities to keep parishioners connected with what is happening at the parish. Volunteers visit parishioners who live in nursing homes, assisted living, apartments and private homes. Time commitment: 15–30 minutes a visit/visiting 5-6 parishioners, once a month (you set the schedule).

511 – Waconia United Food Shelf
Volunteers assist with the day-to-day operation of the food shelf which serves Western Carver County families in need. It is operated by a volunteer advisory group made up of representatives of St. Joseph and other Waconia area churches. Contact: Waconia United Food Shelf at 952-442-3878 or www.waconiafoodshelf.org
