Descriptions of New Ministries

624 – Drive-Up Usher
Ushers are needed for Drive-Up Masses that will be celebrated on the rectory lawn (or, perhaps, elsewhere).  They are responsible for the following:

  • Direct traffic/parking to make the most efficient use of the space we have
  • Enforce social distancing rules, especially pertaining to people remaining in their cars
  • Collect the offerings from cars from a distance
  • Deposit offerings at the bank

It is crucially important that Drive-Up Ushers model the implementation of our parish’s safety protocols—specifically, they must always be masked and gloved while they serve in this ministry, as well as socially distance themselves from other ministers.  Additionally, nobody with a condition that makes him/her a high-risk target for COVID-19 may participate in this ministry.  These conditions include but are not limited to: 65+ years of age, diabetes, or other immunocompromising conditions.

625 – Drive-Up Radio Technician
A person comfortable with technology is needed to oversee the radio signal for broadcasting audio to cars in Drive-Up Masses.  He/she doesn’t have to be an expert right away but should feel comfortable receiving and implementing some light training regarding audio mixing, setup/takedown of Drive-Up Masses, and operating the radio transmitter.  Additionally, nobody with a condition that makes him/her a high-risk target for COVID-19 may participate in this ministry.  These conditions include but are not limited to: 65+ years of age, diabetes, or other immunocompromising conditions.  Tech-savvy youths are encouraged to consider this ministry.

626 – Indoor Mass Stream Overseer
A person comfortable with technology is needed to oversee the stream of indoor Masses over the internet to worshippers in distant locations.  He/she doesn’t have to be an expert right away but should feel comfortable receiving and implementing some light training regarding streaming, using our cameras and sound system, and some basic setup/takedown procedures for a streamed Mass.  Tech-savvy youths are encouraged to consider this ministry.

627 – Indoor Mass Audio Technician
A person comfortable with audio mixing and technology is needed to operate the sound system during Mass and other events.  He/she doesn’t have to be an expert right away but should feel comfortable receiving and implementing training regarding audio mixing and setup/takedown procedures.  Youths, musicians, and technologically proficient are encouraged to consider this ministry.  It should be noted that most of the time there will be little to do or adjust, but when there is something that needs adjusting, it ought to be done swiftly and decisively.

628 – Indoor Mass Cleaner
This ministry is crucial to our ability to hold public Masses, however restricted, in the church building itself.  It requires volunteers who are comfortable with learning/implementing sanitization protocols and coordinating with the custodial staff. (Click here for Procedures)

629 – Indoor Mass Lector
For the foreseeable future, Masses at St. Joe’s will employ the use of one lector rather than our usual two, in order to prevent sharing of the ambo between two individuals.  Volunteers should be comfortable reading in public and finding/practicing the appropriate Scripture beforehand.  Confirmed Catholics are encouraged to consider this ministry.

630 – Indoor Mass Greeter/Screener
This ministry is essential for success in our ability to safely celebrate Mass as a community in the church. This ministry will have two components: greeting people at the entrance door, and screening them to ensure they are without temperature, that they have signed up for Mass on-line and by extension attested to the screening questions, and help to answer any questions as people enter. 631 – Indoor Mass Usher
The ministry of usher is responsible for:

  • Seating Parishioners
  • Enforce social distancing rules, especially during the distribution of Communion
  • Providing directions and answering questions when asked
  • Deposit offerings at the bank
