What is
Confirmation?
Confirmation is a Sacraments of Initiation in the Catholic Church. Through Confirmation, the Holy Spirit deepens the grace received at Baptism, empowering the individual to witness and live out their Catholic faith with courage and conviction.

Do you have questions about the Catholic faith? Would you like to join the Catholic Church? The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is a process through which participants are invited to grow more deeply in their faith and discern if joining the Catholic Church or completing one’s initiation into the Church is what they desire.

9-10 Grade
Confirmation Preparation is a two-year process for high school-age teens. Small groups meet weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 pm.

What Happens During The Sacrament of
Confirmation?
The Confirmation ceremony is a profound and moving experience. The bishop (or priest) will:
- Invite the Renewal of Baptismal Promises: The candidates reaffirm their faith and commitment to Christ.
- Pray for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit: The bishop invokes the Holy Spirit to strengthen the candidates in their faith.
- Anoint with Chrism: The bishop anoints the candidates with Sacred Chrism, saying:
“Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.” - Offer a Sign of Peace: The bishop extends the peace of Christ to the newly confirmed, marking their full initiation into the Church.

What if I missed Confirmation as a teenager?
It’s never too late to receive this sacrament! Adults can complete Confirmation through RCIA or adult faith formation programs.
What are the requirements to be a sponsor?
A sponsor must be a baptized and confirmed Catholic who actively practices their faith and is at least 16 years old. Parents cannot serve as sponsors for their own children.
Can I choose my baptismal name as my Confirmation name?
Yes! Many candidates choose their baptismal name to emphasize the connection between Baptism and Confirmation, but you may also select a new saint’s name.
